Today I’m talking with Fin who actually lives right here on the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia… pretty close to where I am.
He’s really been making some great discoveries in the world of tracking and landscape observation.
And specifically with the goal to apply what he’s been learning about the plants, trees, and birds of his landscape towards solving some tracking mysteries and actually getting closer to the animals.
We had a really great conversation about the wide variety of different perspectives we all can take when exploring nature with our senses and good observation skills in order to build a really complete understanding of how everything works together as an inter-related web of birds, animals, plants, trees, all those different layers of the natural world.
And I think you’re gonna really start to see how when you explore tracking and nature observation from this multi-dimensional perspective, it just provides a much deeper level of insight than if you were just looking at an isolated set of tracks on the ground.
So I think you’re going to really enjoy the different stories and questions that came up through our conversation.
We spent a whole hour really diving in and harvesting lots of practical insights and lessons that you’ll be able to apply on your own adventures tuning in with nature.
So that’s what we have in store today!
Multi-Dimensional Nature Tracking
What’s fueling your natural curiosity and desire to explore the plants, birds, trees and wildlife of your local landscape?
Most people have at least one or two core areas of nature discovery that inspire the goal to get outside and apply indigenous human brain-power towards solving natural mysteries.
For myself it was the desire to apply bird language for locating and getting closer to wild animals… For others it’s all about foraging for plants and using the bounty of nature in everyday life.
But what really sets apart the world’s BEST trackers, herbalists, mentors, and naturalists... is when you can bring all aspects of natural wisdom together in one ultra tuned-in brain and look at how everything connects together like a big system.
It’s not about how much knowledge you have… it’s how willing you are to explore your blindspots!
That’s when the truly revolutionary insights and solutions become clear because suddenly you have dozens of different and creative ways to approach every single question!
Today I have a perfect example of how to think about your landscape in a truly holistic and multi-dimensional way.
We spent a whole hour really brainstorming how the plants, birds, animal trails, and forest patterns are manifesting and inter-relating in his landscape on the Atlantic coast of Canada.
We talked about the alarm patterns of crows in the presence of owls, eagles, ospreys… Simple steps for growing awareness of plant patterns… And some great strategies for solving long-term tracking mysteries in a forest…
This episode is packed with great insights you can apply in your own backyard to really upgrade your holistic nature tracking skills.
